give back day
How to host a give back day
Many local businesses are excited about the concept of giving back, but need a creative way to get started. That's where we come in! Our hope is to help you release the generosity of your clients and employees while simultaneously driving business to you. Check out a few ideas below!
How does it work?
A resource collection drive is a common fundraiser hosted to engage clients and employees to collect resource for a local mission. This can look many different ways, but often is seen as collecting food, Adopt-A-Family Christmas gifts, hygiene products, coat drives, and more!

Every year, we host 4 resource collection drives. We would love to support you through these pre-planned drives, or help you coordinate your own drive that works better for your flow of business. Here are a few options below:
- March Madness Food Drive: 3/6-4/3
- Thrivent Food Insecurity Campaign: 8/20-8/27
- Thanksgiving Food Drive: 10/30-11/17
- Adopt-A-Family Giving Tree: 11/13-12/23
Some businesses get creative by engaging their employees in a variety of ways. One option is to provide a stipend to shop for the drive. Often times, they multiply the donation by spending their own funds as well!
Another way to have a great impact is to invite other businesses to join you! If you're a part of a shopping area with multiple businesses, let's coordinate a drive with everyone!
How does it work?
Employee Matching: At times, larger corporations will offer a match to encourage their employees to give to local organizations. For example, when an employee donates $200, the corporation will also donate $200, so the nonprofit receives a $400 gift.
Employee Stock Options: When companies allow their employees to invest in company stock as a benefit, a great donation opportunity is to transfer that stock to a nonprofit organization. There can be incentives provided by the business to their employee to encourage this type of giving. Taxes are also more favorable this way!

Depending on the size of your business, you can encourage your employees to give through different incentives. If you can't do a match, how else can you encourage your team to be philanthropic?
How does it work?
A great option for a give back day is to donate a % of your sales or profits from a day. Not only is this a huge blessing to the nonprofit, but with a strong plan and communication strategy, allows the nonprofit to promote their supporters to come to your business on that day. This can promote your name as well as the nonprofit.

The Human Bean does this concept very well. This holiday, they will do a give back day on November 9th. One of their locations will donate the profits from an entire day to SERVE 6.8. As a nonprofit, we will promote to our database to visit The Human Bean on that day. They have also invited our team to be on site to answer questions and engage with customers. Such a fun way for your customers to see you supporting local causes.
How does it work?
Pinups are a great opportunity to engage a large number of small donations. SERVE 6.8 would provide a print out to place near the check out/register. Then, customers would purchase the paper for a set $ amount. Then, they put their name on it and put it on the wall. This is a simple way to engage new donors and simple to implement!

If you are interested, we will print you a small paper red t-shirt. Then, customers and employees can purchase them for a small $ amount and you can put them on the wall to promote and show the impact your business is having for SERVE 6.8.
How does it work?
When a customer performs an action (purchases a product, share a post on social media, engages with you Giving Tree, etc.) it will trigger a financial investment to the nonprofit.

A great example would be if a local coffee shop that creates a specific drink to support SERVE 6.8. Through December, $1 will be donated to SERVE 6.8 each time this special cup of coffee purchased. This allows the nonprofit to promote for your fundraiser and is a benefit to both of you.
This can also function another way - if you are hosting a resource collection drive, when a customer brings an item to donate, they can receive a discounted price on their purchase. This will encourage greater engagement with your drive! We see multiple breweries implement this concept.
How does it work?
You pick a hashtag and encourage folk to post on social media using the hashtag. Then, the use of this hashtag will trigger a financial or tangible donation from the business.

If you have a strong social media presence and want to utilize this platform, this is a great option. You would pick a hashtag, let's say #"company name"Christmas23 - whenever anyone posts this hashtag, it would trigger a financial donation of $1 or 1 purchased toy for the Giving Tree. This will increase your social media engagement and encourage involvement.
How does it work?
Everyone loves to participate in a March Madness pool or Fantasy Football. This concept would encourage people to join the pool, then the winnings would be donated to SERVE 6.8.

Find your early adopters. Connect with the groups you know host a pool each season and pitch the idea to them. If they buy into it, the rest of the team may also! It is a great way to encourage camaraderie, have fun, and support the cause.
How does it work?
SERVE 6.8 has a text to give platform. Sometimes other organizations do as well. If you are a large event based company or have an active text network, how could you encourage people to engage giving over text?
How can I implement this fundraiser in my business?
If you are an event based company, you can make a pitch and then put the number on the screen. People in the crowd can text the number and give through that mechanism. It's a quick and easy way to communicate to thousands of people!
If you have a large texting or email network, the concept is similar! Provide a quick pitch and background information and then have them text the number to engage a giving platform.
